The Ledcor-Haisla Limited Partnership (LHLP) was awarded the Heavy Haul Roads scope of work for the future Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) export terminal. The work included constructing a 2.5 km x 33 m wide heavy haul road for self-propelled vehicles to move heavy modules from offshore transport vessels for construction on the plant site.
The scope of the Heavy Haul Road project consisted of an embankment of 300,000 m3 (10,594,400 ft3) of structural fill placed on 200,000 m2 (2,152,782 ft3) of Stratagrid and the construction of retaining wall structures comprised of one 150 m x 3 m high lock block wall and four 150 m x 4 m MSE Gabion basket walls. LHLP also installed 5 km of 24 inches and 30 inches HDPE utility piping along the 2.5 km road as part of the plant infrastructure.
The Ledcor team was responsible for maintaining fish habitats along their area of work. LHLP installed two large pre-cast culverts, one 1,600 mm diameter 50 m, and one 3,000 mm diameter 70 m, both filled with rock substrate to allow for fish spawning.
