In 2014, Ledcor completed construction of foundations for ATCO Electric’s eastern transmission line towers.
Our scope of work included the installation of 92 large diameter cast-in-place piles, ranging from 1.52 m (4.99 ft.) to 3.05 m (10 ft.), with depths of up to 18 m (59 ft.) in addition to the installation of 64 steel driven H-pile foundations, of which consisted of eight battered piles, with a steel pile cap welded to the top.
Each tower along the line included a foundation to support four tower legs, those towers with a cast-in-place pile foundation also required an anchor bolt to be set at the top of the pile.
Due to soil conditions at the Gibbons site, the cast-in-place piles at the tower locations required permanent casings to be installed. To overcome environmental concerns of rutting in the land, swamp mats were used to access most areas. Ledcor went above and beyond our contractual agreements by providing a matting crew and equipment to deliver and place the mats.
