Following the demolition of the older Second World War-era structures, Ledcor constructed a new 3,995 sq. m. (43,000 sq. ft.) Trades Centre facility that connects via an indoor walkway to the main building of the Northern Lights College campus. The new addition was built to LEED Gold standards and incorporates extensive mass timber with a glued laminated timber structure, cross-laminated timber paneling and modularized wood roof panels. Other sustainability features include a solar wall, a demonstration green roof, rainwater collection, a heat pump, and skylights and clerestory windows that provide natural light,
The new building provides physical capacity for up to 96 new full-time-equivalent spaces - a 33% increase, providing better access for prospective trades students across northern BC.
