The A-B Connector was our largest project at YVR and involved demolishing one of the oldest remaining parts of the original 1968-era domestic terminal to build a new three-level expanded facility.
The 27,542 sq. m. (296,470 sq. ft.) connector created a centralized circulation hub that improved passenger flow and provided a wide range of new facilities including dining and shopping options and an enclosed baggage handling hall with an expedited baggage system. Four existing commuter gates were relocated and upgraded, and four new gates were added. Additionally, a large transition space was added for arriving and departing domestic passengers with direct connections to and from the International Terminal.
The building’s design celebrates British Columbia’s interior region and is anchored by a contemporary art piece, The Rivers Monument, by local First Nations artist Marianne Nicolson.
To accommodate the daily operations of an airport that hosts over 17 million passengers a year, Ledcor worked closely with the YVR Airport Authority to maintain security, scheduling, and passenger access around the clock.
