Ledcor, in partnership with Woslee Construction of Nassau, completed the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken by the Bahamian Government, the Lynden Pindling International Airport Expansion Project. Completed in three stages, this project consisted of a new International Arrivals and International Departures/Domestic Terminal, and a fully renovated US Departures Terminal.
The Ledcor team worked with the owner and design consultant to develop new ways to pre-fabricate and revise standard construction sequencing so work could be accelerated. We used Building Information Modeling (BIM) extensively for all trade disciplines to communicate design to all stakeholders. The project was completed three months early under an accelerated schedule that accommodated a continuous flow of arriving and departing passengers throughout the project.
The airport building contains geothermal and solar systems, a TPO roof, and is designed to withstand 150 mph hurricane-force winds. After the completion of this project in 2013, the Lynden Pindling Airport is now able to service 5.2 million passengers, almost 2 million more than before.
