Aurora Project

Ledcor was awarded a five-year contract to provide reclamation and mine support services to Syncrude Canada at the Aurora Mine Site, located 75 kilometers (47 miles) north of Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Ledcor will need to transport 6 – 7 million m3 of reclamation materials per season, so specialized construction equipment, techniques, and timing are critical to the project’s success. Ledcor’s work includes removal and salvage of reclamation materials, overburden removal in advance of oil sands ore recovery, construction of tailings dykes, and ecological restoration of altered mine site areas.

In addition, Ledcor will provide sustaining and capital projects with construction assistance, such as mechanically stabilized earth walls, construction of temporary and permanent haul roads within the mine lease, construction and movement of mine structures, and other services such as heavy equipment rentals. 

 
Ledcor has acquired the following equipment, in addition to the existing fleet, to support work at this site:

• Nine 100-ton trucks

• Eight 240-ton trucks

• Four 200-ton trucks

• One 200-ton excavator
