PRESS RELEASE - Edmonton, AB – Ledcor employees continue to show their true spirit, demonstrating that Ledcor cares about its local communities by donating time, money, labour, and professional skills to those impacted by the Fort McMurray wildfires.
“Our hearts are with the families of Fort McMurray. The outpouring of our employee’s concern and offers to help has been truly amazing,” said Tom Lassu, President, Ledcor Industries Inc. “Our Ledcor family has rallied in an unprecedented way, with acts of care and kindness in support of those affected.”
Through an employee donation matching program, Ledcor is contributing financial support towards the relief efforts of the Red Cross, The Salvation Army, and Alberta Food Banks. Over $50,000 was raised within the first 24 hours of the launch of Ledcor’s Fort McMurray Wildfire corporate and employee campaign.
In addition to financial aid, Ledcor’s outreach to date includes working with the local authorities to arrange convoys (both via road and air) with supplies deployed to areas in need. Two pallets of water bottles, 750 gallons of fuel, and 3,000 power bars were distributed to travelers heading south from the flames. In partnership with Alberta Transportation, Ledcor employees also manned a mobile fuel station at kilometer 186 on Highway 63 to ensure those evacuating had enough fuel to make the journey.
Ledcor’s subsidiary, Summit Air, helped fly affected people out of the region while Summit Helicopters is assisting with firefighting efforts in the region.
These are just a few of the ways in which Ledcor employees are rising to the call of those in need. Employees across the organization continue to organize local fundraising events in support of those affected by these devastating fires.
“Ledcor would also like to recognize the outstanding efforts of the first responders and firefighters throughout the Fort McMurray area. Without these brave men and women, this disaster could have been much worse,” said Lassu. "Together with our clients, and with safety top of mind, we look forward to getting our people working again."
