For the 8th year in a row, Ledcor employees joined together to raise money and awareness for the Movember movement. In 2018, 74 participants, either as individuals or members of the ten teams, exceeded their $50,000 CAD goal by raising $51,234 CAD. Combined with the Ledcor match, this year's total is $97,670 CAD.
Ledcor employees first participated in the Movember event in 2011, fundraising and growing mustaches and beards in support of those programs that raise awareness of men's health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's mental health. With a corporate match, to date, Ledcor has raised more than $480,000.
For the second year, teams LTS Canada ($11,265.74) and LTS US ($17,590.11) had a healthy rivalry for the spot of top team fundraising, spearheaded by Ledcor's executive sponsor for the campaign, Allen Hemrich, Vice President LTS. "I am passionate about supporting the Movember Foundation for many reasons, but their focus on Men's Mental Health and Suicide Prevention is very personal for me," he says. "Two men who left indelible marks on my life both committed suicide because they were taught as boys that Real Men don't cry about what's going on in their lives and deal with things quietly themselves. I want to raise awareness about this important aspect of men's health and am proud to have championed the movement over the past four years."
Congratulations go to all the participants for another successful event inspired by these special looks that this year's movement produced.
The Movember movement began in Australia in 2003 with 30 participants, and to date has inspired support from over 5 million participants around the world. In 15 years they have funded more than 1,200 men's health projects, and by 2030 the Foundation plans to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25 percent.
