The Ronald McDonald House Northern Alberta (RMHNA) Fuel for Families Powered by Ledcor lunch program launched in May of 2014, delivering weekly lunches to families staying at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Nicola Scott coordinated the program from the beginning and has proudly spearheaded it ever since, joining together 114 employees from numerous locations and divisions across Ledcor to deliver 5540 lunches, even on Christmas and New Years Day!
The program runs every Friday, with lunches made at Ronald McDonald House and delivered to the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Ledcor’s team is looking forward to continuing their contribution in 2016 and adding on to the 550 hours volunteered thus far as part of a three-year, $25,000 annual commitment from Ledcor to the program.
“Ledcor and its employees have a long history of supporting pediatric initiatives and helping families who are going through difficult times when their child is ill,” said Tom Lassu, President, Ledcor Constructors. “We are thrilled that RMHNA gave us the opportunity to sponsor this program, which we helped start as a volunteer initiative. The strength and courage of these families is truly inspirational and we hope that providing a healthy lunch helps make an often long day a little easier.”
Along with making and delivering nutritious lunches for families at Ronald McDonald House, team members also created little ‘love-notes’ that they included in the lunch bags. Some of these notes were simple kind words, some were messages of inspiration, and others were kid-friendly knock-knock jokes and riddles.
“Families caring for their sick children at the hospital rarely take time to care for themselves, and yet it can make such a difference,” said Martin Dugas, CEO Ronald McDonald House® Northern Alberta. “With Ledcor’s sponsorship, we are now able to provide nutritious meals brought by warm and friendly faces to our families when they need it most.”
