On September 12, Kathryn Hellman, Karin Ikoma, Mariel Cox and Meagan Enright rappelled down Guinness Tower as part of Easter Seals Drop Zone, where ordinary people become superheroes for a day in support of Canadians living with disabilities.
The Vancouver-based, Construction employees took the leap to challenge themselves and combine forces in support of a cause they share. Megan, Mariel and Karin have all volunteered with children of diverse abilities. As Kathryn put it, by participating in the Drop Zone, "we were going to be uncomfortable for an hour, but others face challenges every day."
The team raised $4,800 for Easter Seals one of our Ledcor charities which Ledcor matched for a total of $9,600 going to support BC/Yukon Easter Seals House and Easter Seals Camp.
Only two of the four had climbed before. All of our superheroes said the scariest part was stepping out over the parapet to stand on a narrow ledge before starting their descent! They rappelled two at a time to an amazing view and a song of their choice, while colleagues cheered them on and took photos from inside the building.
Meagan, Mariel, Karin and Kathryn agreed this experience surpassed their expectations, and they encourage other employees to sign up next year. They would like to thank Oxford Properties for waiving the registration fee and their Ledcor family and partners for the support and encouragement.
