Ledcor is proud to have raised a cumulative total of $682,135 in employee donations and corporate matching since the beginning of our involvement in Walk so Kids Can Talk benefiting Kids Help Phone. Ledcor has participated in the fundraiser for the past five years and it is one of Ledcor’s biggest employee fundraising events of the year.
The walk is a fun and non-competitive 5 km route which is traditionally held on the first Sunday in May since 2002. Kids Help Phone is a free, anonymous, and professional counselling service supporting the mental and emotional well-being of the 6.5 million kids across Canada, ages 5 to 20. Known as Canada’s largest for the cause, the walk draws thousands of participants across the country and kicks off Mental Health Week in Canada every year.
On May 3, 2015, over 220 Ledcor employees, family, friends, and even dogs walked in teams in Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary. Clad in Ledcor’s signature blue t-shirts and bandanas, the Ledcor teams proudly demonstrated their True Blue spirit.
“Each year the campaign grows significantly and I am proud to say that we now have teams participating in Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary. Once again, Ledcor has been named the number one fundraising team in Canada,” said Peter Hrdlitschka, President of Ledcor Construction. “I would like to thank all of our internal fundraising committees and employees for continuing to support this very important cause, which helps to ensure young people across this country have support when they need it the most.”
This year Ledcor almost doubled its original fundraising goal of $100,000, which would not have been possible without the organizing teams’ collective efforts in fundraising, volunteering, and organizing community events in the weeks leading up to the walk, mobilizing hundreds of others to take part as well. These individuals generously donated their time in hosting internal fundraisers and community events such as bake sales and raffles, to raise a total of $196,135 in all three cities this year, contributing to the total amount of $3.1 million raised by Kids Help Phone.
This success was also due in part to employees who personally fundraised. Peter Hrdlitschka is Vancouver’s top fundraiser, raising an impressive $62,126 in personal pledges, while Quentin Huillery placed second on Edmonton’s top 10 list of fundraisers by raising $5,125. Trish Marasigan was Calgary’s top fundraiser with $671 in donations.
Ledcor is proud of our involvement and the large impact it makes within our communities and beyond. By being site sponsors in both Vancouver and Edmonton and corporately matching employee donations, Ledcor is making a commitment to investing in children, youth, and families across Canada.
