Due to a recent demonstration of the ‘Ledcor Cares’ spirit, more children have been given the opportunity to swing a bat, shoot a puck, or smash a ball for happier and healthier lives in Slave Lake, Alberta. Ledcor and TransCanada employees were featured in an October issue of the Slave Lake paper, Lakeside Leader, for raising $7,300 in support of the Slave Lake chapter of KidSport.
“Our group of 25 pipeliners raised the money in a variety of ways, including a golf tournament and personal donations,” said Clint Harris, a superintendent in Ledcor’s Pipeline division who was spearheading this campaign.
Local community fundraisers such as these help sustain KidSport’s grants and sport introduction programming. KidSport is a national not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance for registration fees and equipment to kids aged 18 and under. KidSport advocates the importance of all kids having access to sports programs and the value and benefit of kids playing sports in the pursuit of lifelong health and wellness. Since its creation in 1993, over 450,000 kids across Canada with financial barriers have been given the chance to play sports.
Those involved in the campaign chose KidSport because of the direct impact that the organization has in the Slave Lake community. As a result, the funds raised exceeded—and has the potential to double—the total funding that KidSport received last year; a big boost to the local organization.
We’re proud of our employees’ efforts in engaging their local community. Due to the generosity of our employees and partners, KidSport can continue supporting children and removing financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sports. Through participation in organized sport activities, kids can learn the values of co-operation, team play and friendship, commitment to goals, personal excellence, healthy competition, and self-esteem.
