Connectivity, support, and healthy children are fundamental parts of building strong communities, and are what fuels the ‘Ledcor Cares’ spirit. This is why all offices across North America take part in the annual fundraising campaign, with the unified goal of helping kids facing difficult social and medical challenges that prevent them from leading a fulfilling life. Funds are raised through employee contributions and fundraising activities in all Ledcor offices, which are corporately matched dollar for dollar —a key part of Ledcor’s giving back philosophy.
From September 14th to October 2nd, 2015, Ledcor set out on a mission to promote the well-being of children through a variety of local community giving events as part of the annual fundraising campaign. The campaign resulted in over $1.3 million raised for more than 100 charities within a three week period, driving home the message that, by joining together, we can more effectively help to improve the lives of children in need.
Community giving and support for charities that help children facing difficult challenges take place throughout the year and in our annual campaign. The recipient charities include children’s hospitals and hospices, Make-a-Wish chapters, and front-line community organizations such as United Way chapters, food banks, and local children’s charities such as Covenant House, Little Warriors, Y.E.S.S, NOW, Zajac Ranch for Children, and the Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation.
Ledcor employees actively participate in their communities through donations, volunteering, and supporting local campaign events. Many generous companies in these local communities also stepped up to support our initiatives by donating prizes and venue spaces for our local fundraising events. Thanks to our generous donors and employees, we were able to encourage participation and raise additional funds by hosting local fundraisers such as BBQs, scavenger hunts, mini golf and ping pong tournaments, cook-offs, silent auctions, and yoga events.
In Fort Hills, Ledcor employees Ryan Hodgson and Scott Gurney volunteered to shave their heads if their job site was able to raise $30,000 through employee pledges and local fundraising. With the corporate match, this would equal $60,000. They exceeded their goal and were able to raise $80,000, including the match. Ryan and Scott’s job site in Fort Hills raised more than any other Ledcor site, with their generous donations going to support charities such as Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, Children’s Hospital of Vancouver Island, Stollery Children’s Hospital, Janeway Children’s Hospital, IWK Children’s Hospital, and Sick Kids, as well as JDRF, Cystic Fibrosis, Crohn’s and Colitis, Make a Wish and Autism Canada.
In total, 1175 employees from across all Ledcor divisions and locations pledged a total of $586,712 directly through our giving program, with an additional $68,652 raised through local fundraising efforts. Combined with Ledcor’s corporate match, a grand total of $1,310,058 will support over 100 charities in Canada and the United States this year—an increase compared to last year’s total donations and charities helped.
“I would like to thank each of you that got involved, worked together, and participated however you were able to. I would also like to thank our many local campaign chairs and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the campaign a success,” said Jimmy Byrd, President of LTS and Executive Sponsor of the 2015 Ledcor Cares Employee Campaign.
“The energy and excitement that our employees created in their respective locations was felt across the organization and helped build more awareness and raise more funds in the community. We’re proud that we were able to help improve the lives of children through the many charities the campaign supports, as well as support our local communities and employee charitable interests.”
Whether it is granting wishes to a child with a life threatening illness, funding pediatric medical equipment, creating opportunities for children with disabilities, providing less fortunate families access to food, helping kids get off the street, or supporting children living with juvenile diabetes, crohn’s disease, cystic fibrosis, and autism, we are proud to make a difference.
