Giving back to the communities we serve has been a part of Ledcor’s culture since we all worked out of one shop in central Alberta. Today, 66 years later, Ledcor and its employees are still committed to enhancing our local communities by making them better places to live and work.
In 2013 we demonstrated that commitment through individual generosity and corporate donations, investing over $2.9 million in over 100 charities across North America.
Guided by a belief that healthy children build strong families and communities, a key pillar of our community giving is support for pediatric medical facilities and critical illness initiatives, both through corporate donations and our annual employee giving program.
This year, in communities throughout our operations, recipient organizations included 17 children’s hospitals from Hawaii to Newfoundland and San Diego to Yellowknife. We also donated to various Make-A-Wish chapters, local child health charities such as Canuck Place Hospice, Little Warriors, Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, and Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation, and disease specific causes such as JDRF, Crohn’s and Colitis, and Autism.
Support was also given to a number of front-line community services organizations including food banks across Canada, local United Way chapters, and Covenant House in Vancouver.
Throughout the year, Ledcor and its employees also supported many charities by participating in fundraising events, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations such as the Kids Help Phone, Kids With Cancer, Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario, BC Cancer Foundation, SAIT, BCIT, and Movember, as well pitching in hundreds of hours of volunteer time and helping with disaster relief efforts in Canada and abroad.
We also understand that local giving is not just about fundraising. We partner with dozens of industry, apprenticeship, and scholarship programs that help people develop skills and experience that will last a lifetime.
We support the industries where we do business through investment in professional development, sustainability, training, and sponsorship, providing scholarships to skilled trades programs and funding important industry research such as the establishment of the Ledcor Group Applied Research Chair in Oil Sands Environmental Sustainability at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). These initiatives reflect one of Ledcor’s core values of sustainability – balancing people, planet and profit.
Through 66 years of giving, Ledcor’s generosity has touched the lives of its own employees and families, as well as countless other families across the province.
