In August 2018 Ledcor employees, representing the Construction, LTS, and Shared Services groups, participated in the Ride to Conquer Cancer to support BC Cancer Research. The 12-person bike crew, led by team captain Mike de Jong, raised over $49,000; which includes contributions from employees, fundraising, suppliers, and a Ledcor match.
2018, was the second year Ledcor participated in the Ride to Conquer Cancer. In 2017, the crew rode from Vancouver to Seattle. The 2018 ride went a little differently. With heavy smoke warnings across the province, the route from Langley to Hope had to be adjusted.
"The ride almost didn't take place due to the heavy smoke that settled across the Lower Mainland from the forest fires," says Mike de Jong. "The day before the ride, a change in weather patterns brought significant rains and cold weather which allowed the ride to proceed."
Support for the ride has continued to grow over the years, impacting breakthroughs in research and improving patient care across the country. Since 2017, Ledcor employees have raised more than $125,000 for this event with the Ledcor match.
The Ride to Conquer Cancer is an annual two day, a 200-kilometer fundraising event held in various locations across Canada. In its 10th year, the BC event raised nearly $11 million for the BC Cancer Foundation.
Excellent work to Team Ledcor making the best out of a smoky situation and raising funds for a great cause.
