Ledcor hosted the 10th Annual Korol Cup Hockey Challenge in September 2014, bringing together 130 amateur players from across Ledcor and Ledcor industry partners to raise money for post-secondary technology scholarships in memory of former Ledcor employee, Trevor Korol. Since Ledcor began contributing to the Trevor Korol Memorial Endowment Funds, we have provided scholarships for more than 27 students and raised a total of $177,000.
Trevor Korol was a young enterprising individual with the promise of a great career at Ledcor. Following a tragic plane crash that claimed Trevor’s life in 2008, the tournament was renamed in his honor and in collaboration with his father David, a fund was established to provide scholarships for deserving technology students at three Western Canada technology institutes: Edmonton’s Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Polytechnic in Calgary, and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).
Thanks to the efforts of the organizing committee, volunteers, sponsors, and of course, the players who came out in great form for this worthy cause, participation has tripled from its inception and included players from 12 different Ledcor groups and 12 different cities across North America, as well as several of our industry partners at last year’s 10th anniversary. With a generous corporate match, the 2014 tournament raised $58,000 towards the Trevor Korol Memorial Endowment Funds.
